I have a boyfriend…

My friend Mary P. posted this today:
” my dilemma: my fave pair of boyfriend jeans has sadly shredded to bits. they saw me through two post-pregs and i miss them desperately; were worn in perfectly; and were just the right amount of baggy and comfort. i need a replacement pair – suggestions on brands to try? would want a bit of relaxation in them, and will be rolling them up a bit at the bottom to let a snappy amount of my fave boots to peek out from underneath. help me help me help me. “

Well, I have to admit that my very favorite pair of boyfriend jeans is Mossimo from Target, as mentioned in my “Mom Pants” post.

That being said, I am also the owner of, and I am not kidding, over 40 pairs of jeans, so have a vast array of experience in the jeans arena. In fact, you could consider me somewhat of a connoisseur. It comes down to two things: price and comfort. And the two are not always mutually agreeable. I have some very pricey jeans that aren’t comfortable. So let’s cut to the chase. Some of my faves: Citizens of Humanity , Joe’s Jeans – love that they’re called “ex-boyfriend” jeans, and that they have some stretch, and I would be remiss not to add the 7 For All Mankind Josefina Boyfriend Jean. I am a major fan of anything Rag and BoneWilliam Rast (Justin Timberlake and his buddy Trace Ayala) is doing a sweet boyfriend denim – and you can catch their brand at the rotating designers section in Target – don’t love the jeans in the Target collection though…

On the more commercial front, Banana Republic, JCrew and The Gap all have good options, although Gap is all skinny and wide leg right now, with nary a boyfriend in sight. And lastly, Lucky Jeans: one of my all time faves. Just the right amount of funky and fashionable. Great quality and not too ridiculous in price. I love the slim lines of their Boyfriend Jean called the Riley.

The website Denimology is dedicated to all things denim and has over 250 boyfriend options in their collection.

And don’t forget: don’t let the cut be too masculine. You’re trying to emulate the style, not actually wear men’s jeans. Look for something that still shows your shape.
